Welcome
to Jabula, the
Zulu meaning of which is ‘to be happy’.
Jabula is a limited company based in the Republic of Ireland,
& was opened on 1st April 2006. The idea was to bring a little
bit of home over to South African’s living in Ireland – the fact that many
other nationalities now come to Jabula to stock up on biltong, Ouma’s &
Niknaks was a bonus!
Jabula
is
owned & managed by Leesa Booyzen, who grew up in Assagay, KwazuluNatal. She
is assisted by her Business Partner & Irish Husband Caleb Cooper who grew
up in Gorey, Wexford. As a result of hanging around with all the Saffa’s he now
uses South African slang & wonders what we would all talk about in the shop
if the weather was great.
All
staff in the shop are fellow South African’s who understand the culture &
are always free for a good skinner or shoulder to lean on. We’re aware that
many people are far from home & here alone, so there’s always a pot of
coffee on the go for people to come in & chat, with additional support in
the form of the forum: http://www.jabula.ie/forum/index.php,
which was designed for South African’s to get together, compare notes, read
jokes, recipes & so much more; making it more of a community than just a
shop.
All
the food & gifts are sourced from South Africa, with containers being sent
over 3-4 times a year. All our giftware is handmade, normally to order, &
each item carries a story. We try to cut out the middle-man where possible,
ensuring a better deal for the producer and a better price for you! If
you have personal belongings you’d like to bring over from SA, contact us &
we might be able to fit them onto the container.
Jabula
is
open 7 days a week for your convenience; we are only closed on 25th
& 26th December & 1st January.
